Mid April '07 saw me heading for Colorado for the third time
since Christmas. I drove up, instead of flying, and saw some
awesome country.
I was steppin 'n' fetchin, so not many pictures this trip.
Back in Colorado in July, and I spent 9 days hiking and
biking.
I started with a trip to The Black Canyon of The Gunnison National
Monument. Went to the East Portal , and did a little
hiking.
The next day I went to Escalante Canyon , between
Delta and Grand Junction. Gorgeous country, if you enjoy the
desert. I do.
The third day, I found a Diamondback mountainbike for sale that I could
not pass up. I think I am in love.......
Day 4 found me heading east, doing a short 5 mile ride up Alpine Plateau Road, near Blue
Mesa Reservoir.
From there, I crossed Monarch Pass, and rode my new bike up Independence Pass, a project I
had planned since I was there last year.
The next day, I drove to the top of Independence Pass, and took a
hike around to some of the peaks.
Spent the night in Rifle, and then dropped down through Redstone to Marble, and the quarry there.
Got sidetracked by a trail on McClure Pass, and spent some
time walking.
Looped around the North Rim of the Black Canyon
on my way back to Montrose.
Rested the 7th day, then over Red Mountain Pass, and a bike ride
up Ophir Pass.
The last day, I went back over Red Mountain Pass, and biked to Clear Lake.
After a night in Ouray, I looped down south through Norwood, Uravan, and Gateway to
Grand Junction,
then back to Gunnison for the night, after a walk up to the Dillon Pinnacles above Blue Mesa Reservoir.
Left Gunnison the next morning, and spent some time playing on Blanca Peak, east of Alamosa.
After a night in Montrose, I spent the day visiting with friends in
Norwood. Spent the night there, then headed out, and got sidetracked by the town of Alta.
Didn't hardly get up to highway speed after leaving Alta, and Lizardhead Trail reached out and hooked me.
After Alta and Lizardhead, I crossed Lizardhead Pass, got a meal and sleep, and took a short ride up Jackson Mountain.
Crossed Wolfcreek Pass on our way to Laveta, and the lava walls there.
One last run to Colorado, for Christmas.
