Starting
top-left, and working down, there is Navajo Sandstone, Kayenta Formation,
Wingate Sandstone, and the Chinle Formation. Just to the right, between 3
and 4 is a fallen slab. Back to the top, and only half-visible is 6 -
slickrock. Then Douglas Fir trees, and below that is more Kayenta
Formation, and Wingate Sandstone to the right of the fallen slab. Above
the Shafer Trail is Desert Varnish, and more Navajo Sandstone. All the
way to the right is a joint, or vertical crack that channels water, and gives
plants root space. It also defines where slabs will sheer off the canyon
wall.
