On the left, between the White Rims, you can see Totem Pole and Monument
Basin. Located 35 miles southeast of here, near the Colorado border, are
the Abajo Mountains (center-frame, in the distance). The highest
point is Abajo Peak, elevation 11360 feet. Monticello lies just
east of them. You can also see the White Rim, and White Rim road. You
can't make them out, but on the right, away out yonder, are the Needles.
They're about 12 miles from here as the crow flies, and are part of Canyonlands.
Up close the Needles are a land of colorful, sculptured rocks with
arches, canyons, and needle-like spires.
