The view from here reveals an area of outstanding natural
beauty. The panorama in front of you illustrates many of the
features that can be seen from this vantage point.
To the southeast,
the La Sal Mountains reach to heights in excess of 12,000 feet.
The mountains are flanked by broad mesas, which break off to reveal the
red rock country below. Moab and Spanish Valley lie at the base of
the La Sals, in the valley created by the Moab fault. Also running
through this fault is the Colorado River. The river's brown or red
color attests to the ongoing erosion in this area. These sediments
are then transported by the river to downstream locations.
