Another year in paradise...

In case you are curious, 'we' means you, the reader, and me, Dave.

Cut a birch tree down for firewood, and found this nice heart.

In January, we were hired to go to St. Paul Island to keep the harbor open for the Bering Sea crab boats fishing for Opilio crabs.  The job was delayed until February, because of ice on the fishing grounds.  The job was supposed to be for 'about 30 to 45 days...' That was before Mother Nature laid down the worst ice ever recorded in the Bering Sea.

My first taste of Bering Sea ice, just off Otter Island.

Some cute little foxes. Well, they were for the first two weeks, anyway.

Some of the crab fleet we worked with.

Some pictures from around St. Paul.

Some resident birds here.

Yes, I am a show-off...

Eider geese, or ducks, I am not sure which.   But it's eider one or da udder

Capt. Mark and the tug Malolo.

More of the crabbing fleet.

Some of the smaller swells coming into Village Cove.

Some more of the foxes.

Icing inside the boat.

A little southwest swell.

Sea lions we slipped up on.

A harbor seal between St. Paul and Otter Island.

Migratory sea birds return.

More foxes.

After a short break, we headed out to Nome and the Yukon River for a summer of work.

Some humpies lolling about.
